very important to New Bernians. We have listings below to help you find a
congregation and church where you'll be welcomed.
Early North Carolina settlers brought their faiths with
them and contributed immeasurably to the civilizing of this frontier area, and
New Bern has always represented a haven for religious freedom for settlers of
many denominations from around the world. The Catholic
church is the earliest in NC. One of the earliest synagogues in the South is here and still
practicing. Almost all religious
denominations are represented. For more

Christian Churches in New Bern: Click on the
Yellow Pages directory listing of the various churches in New Bern to find
the denomination you are looking for, which include the following.
- Anglican, Assembly of God, all Baptist derivations, including Free-Will, Missionary,
Independent, Southern.
- There are a number of Bible Churches, all Christian divisions,
including Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Independent, Missionary Alliance, Church of Christ, Church of God,
and AME.
- Episcopal, Holiness, Independent, Lutheran, Methodist and United Methodist.
- Pentecostal, Pentecostal-Holiness, Presbyterian,
United Methodist, United Pentecostal.
- Christian Science, Seventh-Day Adventist, Jehovah's
Witnesses, Latter Day-Saints
- Mennonite, (Note
that a Mennonite family has a popular home-style restaurant on Middle Street

Catholic Churches in New Bern:
- The oldest Catholic Church in North Carolina is in
New Bern.
St. Paul's Catholic Church still owns the historic downtown church, but
it is used only for Friday morning mass, weddings and other special
occasions. The new St. Paul's is located on Country Club Road in Trent Woods
and has a K-8 school attached.
- There are also Catholic Churches in Oriental (St.
Peter the Fisherman) and nearby Havelock (Annunciation Catholic Church).
