-
Ghost Walk:
Written
up by Southern Living and other national media as a "don't
miss" event in the South, New Bern's Ghost Walk is a unique
combination of historic homes candlelight tour and ghost
stories event. Held annually on a Friday and Saturday
night weekend in late October before Halloween, actors
depicting characters from a specific historic period in New
Bern's history, tell ghost stories related to the site and
take visitors on tours of the famous cemetery (do NOT miss
this part of the tour!), historic downtown churches and
homes in New Bern's famous historic district. Servers
dressed like monks serve meals in one church while
reenacters from barbershop quartets to battling Civil War
soldiers- depending on the time period being depicted that
year- can be found strolling the street.
While there are some activities for older children and it is
more historic reenactment and NOT Halloween scary, smaller
children will likely be bored.
Since no tickets are sold at the
venues themselves, visitors must buy tickets in advance at
the Historical Society or at street kiosks although some
tickets are usually available (for a little more $ money)
the days of the event. This is the primary fundraiser for
the New Bern Historic Society along with the Historic Homes
Tours, so donations are welcome.
Visit the New Bern Historical Society's Ghost Walk page for
more info or call
(252) 638-8558.
