GOLF COURSES IN NEW BERN NC
 Named one of the top 50 courses in the Southeast
by Golf Weekly and Golf digest’s “Places
to Play ” gives 3 ½ stars to The Emerald, a Rees Jones designed golf
course.
Located in
Greenbrier golf
community on S. Glenburnie Road.
For 10 years, The Emerald was the host
of the Curtis Strange Shrine Classic. Curtis invited three fellow
golfers to play for the Shriners' charity in New Bern, his wife's home town. Arnold
Palmer, Nancy Lopez, Fuzzy Zeller, Fred Couples,
Tom Kite, Jay Haas, Julie Inkster, Justin Leonard, David Flaherty, even Michael
Jordan and Tiger Woods were just some of
the many celebrity golfers to play in this wildly fun charity event hosted by Curtis.
The Emerald has also hosted the “Aylward” event and regularly holds
other charity and club tournaments.
Annual cart fee: Single lease
$1350, includes tax, one 18 hole cart per day, one person. Couple’s lease $1548
includes tax, one 18 hole cart per day, couples. Family lease $1970 includes
tax, unlimited golf car usage, couple and family under the age of 21. 18 hole
cart fee is $12.25 including tax per person. 9 hole cart fee is $7.00 including
tax per person. Summer rate of $8.00 for unlimited usage after 4pm until 8pm.

by Rees Jones. Fully stocked pro shop with teaching pro always on duty. “Soft”

includes swim and tennis $900 one time initiation fee and $73/month. Payment for

a par of 70. The course rating is 68.5 and it has a slope rating of 113 on
Bermuda grass. Designed by Donald J. Ross, ASGCA, it opened in 1921.
$11.00 cart fee. Family cart fee (lease)
$160, single cart fee $100.Yards:6,045. $12,000 initiation fee, $225 family
monthly dues. Facilities: pool, tennis, weight/exercise room.
Excellent dining room on the Trent River. ($20 mo. minimum) Usually takes a
year to join. Must be sponsored by 2 members and must submit a photo of
entire family. Short course in great shape, small greens.
RIVER BEND COUNTRY CLUB

River Bend Country Club is a par 71 golf
course with five sets of tee boxes. It has a Class “A” PGA Golf Professional
Karl Thurber on the staff, a well stocked Pro Shop, established junior and adult
golfing clinics, schools and camps.
**TABERNA
 70E,
5 miles from New Bern, although New Bern is coming to the door. Private (252) 634-1600 First class Weyerhaeuser community
development and golf course, designed by the Jack Nicklaus design team. In the
same league as the Emerald. Clubhouse architecture taken directly from the
Palace in New Bern’s sister city of Bern Switzerland. Hiking &
nature bike trails, canoe trail, tennis, pool. Family Club initiation fee:

69.5 and it has a slope rating of 115. Designed by Ron Borsett, it opened
in 1966.

holidays. Semi-private. Green fee: $15 to walk Mon-Thurs. $28 to ride
Fri-Sun and holidays. Practice facilities. Yards 6,500. Waiting
list for private carts. Membership: $2,000 initiation for family, $1,000
single. $90 per month dues. Has pool and social memberships. Interesting
course, some trick holes.
CHERRY POINT MARINE AIR STATION- "SOUND OF FREEDOM" GOLF COURSE

it up aboard the Marine Corps' elite jet base, MCAS Cherry Point, and its
"Sound of Freedom Golf Course".
Now open to the public, this course boasts undulation &

military installation, the course is completely natural without houses or
condos located on the course. Recently renovated and located directly on the
picturesque Neuse River, the course has great water views plus a 24 hour
driving range, chipping area, practice putting green, club rentals, snack
bar and a certified PGA teaching pro on staff.

Neuse River. The 18-hole "Minnesott" course features 6,403 yards of golf
from the longest tees for a par of 73.
SILVER CREEK GOLF CLUB

STAR HILL GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
