This eastern NC military transfer and military retirement page has it all (click for Table of Contents), including information for both active and retired military moving to Havelock NC, New Bern NC, and Jacksonville NC- for Cherry Point MCAS, Camp LeJeune and other military installations in eastern NC.

New Bern NC: We LOVE Military, But We Don't LOOK Military!

New Bern NC is- in two words- military friendly! We admire and honor those who serve like no other small town. Nestled between important military installations of Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station and the Naval Aviation Depot Fleet Readiness Center East in nearby Havelock NC, and Camp LeJeune Marine Corps base in Jacksonville NC.

New Bern NC is a convenient and pleasant alternative to living in the typical military towns of Jacksonville or Havelock. When you drive into a typical military town, the landscape is definitely NOT family oriented- too many tattoo parlors and bars, too little charm. For that reason, New Bern is extremely popular with Camp LeJeune and Cherry Point personnel looking for a better lifestyle for their families. With beautiful and charming neighborhoods (including waterfront and golf communities) that feed into some of the top schools in NC outside of Raleigh, abundant churches, and great health care, New Bern is definitely "a step up"!

As for convenience for the personnel who have to shuttle between Camp LeJeune and/or Cherry Point, New Bern is the most convenient and desirable location, since it sits equidistant to both.

New Bern is definitely a "Southern Surprise" with many cultural events and activities like concerts and theater, 300 years of history, and sports and recreation, including golf, boating, sailing, kayaking and fishing- plus commuting convenience to Cherry Point and Camp LeJeune and nearby beaches.

New Bern Home resale values tops in eastern Carolina!  Because of the desirable New Bern lifestyle, homes here have historically maintained a higher resale value.

Whether you are an active armed services family or military retiree, if you want to live and enjoy life in a warm, military-friendly community with the amenities of a larger metropolitan center, New Bern is for YOU!!

We include info and links for: buying real estate, financial advice for military and getting VA Loans, nearby military installations (including US Marine Corps installations of MCAS Cherry Point and Camp LeJeune, US Navy installations including Naval Aviation Depot FRC Cherry Point, Coast Guard facilities, NC National Guard and US Army installations, and US Air Force facilities), military health care, local governmental veterans service offices, active and retired military and veteran support organizations. We even include information on schools, taxes, military and retiree financial services and federal credit unions, buying and selling a home with specific military real estate information, and other useful military links, including consumer protection issues for military.

General New Bern Relocation page or our New Bern Retirement page for more information for newcomers or retirees moving to the New Bern and Havelock NC area.

Real Estate Advice for Military Personnel

Home resale speed and value are very important to military home owners who often have to sell quickly and don't want to lose money when they sell a home. Well-maintained homes for sale in New Bern still seem to appreciate in spite of the rest of the market, and in some neighborhoods, almost as much as in the boom years. So buying the right home in the right area is an important part of military moves.

FINRA, the private Financial Industry Regulatory Authority that regulates the securities industry, offers this useful web site specifically for the military on how to save and invest wisely, particularly in real estate. Another site,, was created by InCharge® Education Foundation for the DOD to provide an authoritative financial resource for military families.

Contact the Bartram Team to find a home that will continue to appreciate; that's a number 1 priority in  today's military climate. The Bartram team understands your special needs.  We intend to make your stay in New Bern fiscally successful; it's already a great family post.   Prices are still appreciating here, not as fast as a year ago, but you can still make a nice nest egg if you buy "smart" and carefully. And selling fast is important, too, when transferring. Pricing your property "right" to get the most while staying competitive to move it fast is a delicate balance and takes expertise.

You have enough stresses in your life, and buying and selling real estate can add to them without a seasoned expert to ease your way. Bob will point you in the right direction, help you find the right house and financing, and and walk you through the process each step of the way. Call Bob Bartram at (252) 636-7313 for immediate assistance.

December 2004:  The Department of Defense ranked Cherry Point as the best prepared military base in the event of an attack!  The men and women of Cherry Point are to be commended!!

MCAS Cherry Point hosts a wonderful air show for the public every year in May. Check the official 2007 site to read about the Cherry Point Air Show.
