Trent Rivers and connects to the IntraCoastal Waterway. This region is called the
Central or Crystal Coast, due to the crystal clear waters all along the abundant beaches
only 30-45 minutes away. Lately, the media has also begun to refer to it as
North Carolina's "Inner Banks",

GENERAL LOCATION: I-70 from Raleigh, NC, and US Hwy 17- which runs from
Virginia down through the Carolinas- are the primary highways that connect
to New Bern via the Interstate highway system.
Only 2 1/2 hours drive from Raleigh-Durham area, 5 1/2 hours from Washington, DC
(4 hours from Fredericksburg, VA) and 9 1/2 to 10 hours
drive from New York City, this has become a popular destination for families and retirees
looking for a small town lifestyle, yet don't want to sacrifice the amenities they enjoyed
in larger population centers.
New Bern is located 2 1/2 hours
drive from Raleigh, NC; 30 minutes from Jacksonville, NC; and 50 minutes from
Greenville, NC. I-70 from Raleigh and US Hwy 17 (which
runs from Virginia down through the Carolinas) connect New Bern via the
Interstate highway system.
TO NEW BERN NC FROM
(Extracted from Google Maps) This
offers the least traffic and most higher-speed divided lane highway access for
driving to New Bern NC.
- Take I-95 South towards
Rocky Mount, NC.
- At Wilson, NC, take Exit 119A for US-264 East toward
- Go 5.1 miles and take Exit 43C to merge onto I-795 South
(Alt/ Bypass US-117 S) toward Goldsboro.
- Follow 21.1 miles, then take Exit 87A to merge onto US-70 E toward Kinston.
- Go 0.7 mi and take a slight right onto ramp for the US-70 East- Bypass /US-117-Bypass N/ US-13 N.
- Follow 0.2 mi, then merge onto US-70 E / US-117-BYP N/US-13 N, then follow directions
From US 70-East directly
NOTE: When returning back
north from New Bern, follow US 70 West towards Raleigh.
In Goldsboro, you have to take a right exit to
on US-70 West. As soon as you take this exit, stay in the
right lane. Take the
next exit with the very small sign marked
Interstate I-795. This will put you on the same
I-795 going north as you came down on. Follow until you see
signs to 264-West/ To I-95.
70-East in the Raleigh-Durham area
- Take US 70-East
past Kinston all the way to New Bern, around 30 miles.
- Note there are NO GAS STATIONS on US 70 between New Bern and Kinston,
so make sure you have sufficient fuel in your tank!
- Take the Glenburnie Rd/ NC-43 exit (this is the 1st New Bern NC exit off of 70East)
- At end of exit, turn right onto Glenburnie Rd/NC-43.
- Follow 0.5 miles to 1904-C South Glenburnie Road for CENTURY 21 Zaytoun Raines Associates building
on the right.
TO NEW BERN NC FROM
(I-95 ROUTE): Follow Interstate I-95
North to Smithfield, NC. Take Exit 95 for US 70-BR-East. Merge onto US-70
which will take you straight to New Bern. Follow directions
From US 70-East
above to reach CENTURY 21 Zaytoun Raines Associate's office.
(US-17 ROUTE): Follow US-17 North
up the East Coast. You'll pass through Myrtle Beach, Wilmington and
Jacksonville, NC, before arriving in New Bern, NC. (This route is MUCH longer!)

From the west (including TN,
KY, OH, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Raleigh), follow I-40 East to Raleigh, NC,
then take the exit for I-70 East. Follow the directions

AVIATION: New Bern has its own relatively new, ever-expanding
airport, Craven Regional Airport
call letters are EWN, and it is primarily served by US Airways Express, with connecting service
through USAir's hub in Charlotte (CLT), as well as recently by Delta Connection, offering connecting service
through Delta's hub in Atlanta (ATL). Call (252) 638-8591 for information.
NOTE: Their check-in counter only opens 45-60 minutes
before a flight, and stops allowing passengers to check-in luggage 30 minutes
before a scheduled departure time, so plan accordingly!

93 miles – or about 2 hours drive from New Bern.

NC (RDU) International airport is the major international airport
serving North Carolina along with Charlotte. RDU is located in Morrisville,
NC, in western Raleigh, some 140 miles or about

There is a
Trailways bus station in New Bern (no Greyhound bus station), but railroad passengers must transport themselves from any of
east-central stations, Wilson is probably the closest to us; Rocky Mount the
better neighborhood. The bus station is located at 504 Guion Street, New Bern,

Boaters can cruise here on the Neuse River; it's an easy sail up the Neuse
Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and the Pamlico
Sound on the Atlantic Ocean.

This Downtown New Bern
Historic and Shopping District map is available at the Tourist Bureau-Visitors' Information
inside the Riverfront Convention Center.
Visitors will have no problem driving around New Bern and the surrounding areas, and
rental cars and bikes are available
summer months, and part-time during the fall and winter, a trolley goes 'round the
historical district. There is a guide provided to tell you what you're seeing.
Bikers appreciate the beautiful streets downtown, but walking reigns supreme as the
favorite mode of transportation around the charming downtown. There are so many
little details you might miss in the abundance of fine old churches and southern-style
colonial and Georgian architecture. Most are beautifully preserved and enhanced by
both long-time residents and recent arrivals to New Bern. The historic districts
are the most interesting places to live in New Bern.
Horse-drawn carriage rides are available, they have a large
trolley size carriage for groups. Built especially for the Special Olympics
contestants, it was such a hit that the Queen Anne Carriage folks kept it active.
